How can I start a business that participates in our food system & improves it? This is the question I asked myself.
A large amount of waste in food service is food waste. Participating in commercial composting diverts waste from landfills and turns it into soil ammendments.
How it works
We’ve tested all sorts of different systems for capturing food waste during events. Our staff is now trained on what is compostable & what goes to recycle or landfill. We take compost waste with us at the end of each event to ensure it stays out of landfills.
Next, it is picked up by a commercial composting company, Compost Crew from Rockville, MD. They take it to their facility, allow it to break down and turn into nutrient dense compost. It is then used for soil amendments which increases soil health and reduces the need for synthetic fertilizers & pesticides. Making our environments healthier & more resilient.
